Wasting Time Daybed

Patricia Urquiola

Iconic Rewaste

Patricia Urquiola, in collaboration with Moroso and MiniWiz, presents Wasting Time Daybed, an ironic and playful modern day bed that recalls the soul of a sneaker, entirely composed of recycled materials. The base of the day bed is just like a shoe sole. The body, the back-rest and base reinforcements are re-dressed with blue and light gray fabrics, both made from two different yarns 100% post-consumer recycled pet drinking bottles, while the dense inner body of the seating is sourced from recycled padding from discarded production. The different parts of the daybed can be easily dismantled by "green" double zip and velcro tapes.

Waste is not trash but a precious resource: this is just the starting point for collaboration; it’s an opportunity rather than a challenge.

======

Design

Jolly Roger is an arm chair designed by Fabio Novembre, using linear polyethylene with a textured matte finishing and glossy details.

Jolly Roger is a seat that formally alludes to the skull, a symbol of defiance marked on the red banner of the pirates. This armchair is consistent with the attitude that unites all products Gufram, a gesture of claim of freedom, synonymous with intellectual independence that follows a path away from bold patterns standardized decor project.

Inside the seat is a planisphere which recalls the maps used by Pacific buccaneers and symbolizes the brand's internationality. The globe is suspended in the frame, a map surrounded by the oceans, an insatiable desire for conquest, almost an exhortation not to stand still. Warning: you are sitting on the world, never forget it.

Ocean Networks Low Tables

Alcarol

Marine eco-life

This project aims to address the issue of ghost nets. 640,000 tons of fishing nets are abandoned in our oceans every year, turning millions of sea creatures into victims. Fishing nets are made of nylon, a high performance plastic that can be recycled completely.

The tabletops are made of some coloured nets from the oceans, melted together with ECONYL®, the translucent regenerated nylon produced through an innovative and sustainable chemical process. ECONYL® nylon is no difference with the standard one coming from oil, except that it can be recycled, recreated and remoulded infinitely.

======

This furniture line is made from sheets of recycled plastic (HIPS: high impact polystyrene). The form and structure of the furniture originate from the idea of combining efficient production methods, functionality and timeless elegance, with the formative possibilities that the material holds within itself. That means the objects are universal, practical and manufacturable on a large scale. Considering the fact that only around 40 percent of the plastic in Europe gets recycled, this design offers an opportunity to raise that percentage. Part of the problem could thus be transformed into added value.

======

Filippo Zonno

Marine eco-life

Sea plastic pollution represents one of the most urgent environmental crisis, due to the dangers it poses to humans and the marine environment, and the huge economic and social repercussions for coastal communities. Not only does recycled plastic offer a more sustainable solution, it's also a material that is often free at the source and can be produced in a wide range of colors, patterns and textures.

The idea from Filippo Zonno is to recover plastic waste from the sea or coastal areas, transform it into regenerated plastic pellets and then mold it into colored nautical buoys. It helps eliminate plastic waste from the sea and give it back to the sea with useful purpose.

Filippo Zonno

Golfweave Chair

Jake Rollins

Ro Plastic Prize

GolfWeave apply atomic geometries on cord and discarded golf balls, which are hacked and distorted to make functional objects. Hexagonal groups of six balls each share one border to make flat surfaces, while pentagons and heptagons are placed strategically to form seats, legs, arms and rests. These curves are the same ones we see in isolation in carbon and all of her allotropes. These golf balls are arranged as if they were atoms of carbon enlarged to a human scale.

Dutch designer Marcel Wanders presents The Sparkling Chair which is made out of PET and is produced by using the same blow-molding technique commonly used for bottles of water. After blow molding the legs and seat, the hollow space is filled with high pressure air which provide very strong structural support.

With this technique, the plastic usage is kept to minimum and the total weight of the chair is around 1kg only. Chair legs are screwed onto the shell, giving the perception of pure weightlessness.

CRAZYCHILDREN CHAIR - VOGUE Hong kong x Elix Water

CRAZYCHILDREN CHAIR - VOGUE Hong kong x Elix Water

VOGUE 椅子VOGUE x ELIX Water

Michael Lau

Re-waste

The birth of VOGUE Chair : CRAZYCHILDREN CHAIR by Michael Lau

CRAZYCHILDREN CHAIR by Michael Lau is made with recycled cartons of VOGUE Hong Kong x ELIX Water.

VOGUE x ELIX Water is a corporate social responsibility exercise conceptualized by VOGUE Hong Kong and ELIX water. The cartons of VOGUE water can be recycled and its raw materials, by a specific process, become a component of a hard "particle board" that can be made and molded into different furniture products.

Collaborated with Michael Lau, a renowned Hong Kong artist, also known as "Godfather of Designer Toy Figure", VOGUE water cartons have been turned into a fully fledged recyclable work of art.

The Concept of VOGUE Chair : CRAZYCHILDREN CHAIR by Michael Lau

CRAZYCHILDREN CHAIR is designed by Michael Lau for VOGUE Hong Kong and inspired by his notable figurine series ‘S.F.C.C.’ (Sci-fiction Crazychildren) where cardboard boxes are the main components of the series.

‘S.F.C.C.’ (Sci-fiction Crazychildren) (2003) series came about as an extension of Lau’s Crazychildren series. It is a story fantasized by Lau back in the late 90’s on an imaginary world where human beings rely on home delivery and can survive purely in the own space of their home. Cardboard boxes became the essential components of daily life. The main characters of the series, being courier, Lau had conceived their body structures to be made of cardboard boxes with tapes, stickers and airway bill details.

The CRAZYCHILDREN CHAIR by Michael Lau was constructed from assembling hard particle boards made from recycled VOGUE water cartons and finished by acrylic tape to imitate the look and feel of a delivery cardboard box as inspired by Lau’s S.F.C.C. series.

About Michael Lau

Known as the "Godfather of the Designer Toys", Michael Lau Kin-man (b.1970) is an acclaimed Hong Kong artist born in the 1970s when the city was at the peak of industrialization and a world leader in toy manufacturing. Every toy was a rare treasure to young Michael and played a key role in his childhood. His growing passion for toys eventually led him to a career in toy design where he conceived as a form of art.

A graduate from the First Institute of Art and Design in Hong Kong in 1992, Michael held his first solo painting exhibition at the Pao Galleries of the HK Arts Centre in 1993. In 1999, Lau merged his creativity and passion in art, toy and action figure and created the "Gardener" series with 99 pieces of 12-inch action figures that juxtaposed his favorite G.I. Joe action figures and street culture for a solo exhibition at the Hong Kong Arts Centre. His unique artistic expression garnered global attention and brought him the opportunity to showcase his works in Japan, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Taipei and Shanghai, London and Paris, leading the global trend of collectible designer toys as an independent artist.

While being recognized as the pioneer who launched the trend in the 90s as featured in the article "20 Trends Sweeping the Globe" by Forbes Magazine (January 2008), Michael has been committed to his contemporary art creation in recent years to actively promote his creative vision – "ll Art are Toys, All Toys are Art.".

VOGUE椅子的誕生 : CRAZYCHILDREN CHAIR by Michael Lau

CRAZYCHILDREN CHAIR by Michael Lau是由 VOGUE x ELIX Water 的回收紙箱製成。

CRAZYCHILDREN CHAIR by Michael Lau

Michael Lau
