Golfweave Chair

Jake Rollins

Ro Plastic Prize

GolfWeave apply atomic geometries on cord and discarded golf balls, which are hacked and distorted to make functional objects. Hexagonal groups of six balls each share one border to make flat surfaces, while pentagons and heptagons are placed strategically to form seats, legs, arms and rests. These curves are the same ones we see in isolation in carbon and all of her allotropes. These golf balls are arranged as if they were atoms of carbon enlarged to a human scale.

PLASTIC IS NOT THE ENEMY

Mei Girault

Ro Plastic Prize 2020 Winner

"PLASTIC IS NOT THE ENEMY" is a project that promotes the use of plastic on a daily basis.

Nowadays, we always talk about the overconsumption of plastic and plastic pollution. However, initially, plastic had made it possible to create objects that could prevent accidents and even save lives.

The aim of this series of visuals is to show others that "plastic remains a material that can help society, only if it is not overproduced and overconsumed".

Andrea Macruz

Ro Plastic Prize 2020 2nd place

The concept of this work is to propose a greater connection between man and nature concerning memory.

It represents the possibility of bringing elements of natural patterns and systems into home. The practice of incorporating nature and analogs of nature into the built environment is called biophilic design. Objects, materials, colors, organic and symmetric shapes, sequences, and patterns found in nature have been proved, thanks to the latest work of the neuroscience field, to measurably reduce stress, promote healing, and enhance cognitive function.

======

Pandora is a lamp and a large decorative vase made from recycled plastic. It is a piece of furniture and a symbol of a second chance for plastic. We produce plastic but we can recycle it, give it a second life and a second chance. The light inside Pandora is the hope for a conscious use of plastic in the future.

SUBSTANTIAL椅子

Alexander Schul

Ro Plastic Prize 2020 Winner

This furniture line is made from sheets of recycled plastic (HIPS: high impact polystyrene). The form and structure of the furniture originate from the idea of combining efficient production methods, functionality and timeless elegance, with the formative possibilities that the material holds within itself. That means the objects are universal, practical and manufacturable on a large scale. Considering the fact that only around 40 percent of the plastic in Europe gets recycled, this design offers an opportunity to raise that percentage. Part of the problem could thus be transformed into added value.

======

Farfalle
This is a decorative element that visually encloses two "pasta butterflies" which are slightly bent but inextricably linked together. The art piece is made by 3D printing with translucent PLA filament, with a varnish-based finish.

Maccherone
The object is created using an innovative digital methodology that results in a whole new way of understanding 3D modeling and digital production. This is a decorative element divided into 2 parts, the upper one with sinuous and soft lines and the lower one that supports the first one formed by the squared and angular 3D print media.

Maccherone
